Default Smog pump / other emissions devices.

So i went and got emissions on the vette the other day and it passed with flying colors. my question is, prior to getting emissions i had the belt for the smog pump (air pump) off and it seems like i had a little more guts with it off. would the air pump really kill a noticable ammount of power or is it in my head? I know that the cats kill 10-20 ponies, but they are welded on and i dont want to do anything illegal to the exaust until i get collector plates so i only have to change it back once every 5 years.

the specs on my car are in the sig, major things are 795 Q-Jet, 327-350hp cam with lift a little under 500 for both and duration slightly above 230 @.050, i think the lobe seperation is 112 and im not postitve on the specs because i dont have my cam card on me. exauset is true dual with stock manifolds ( :U ) high flow cats and low restriction mufflers.

I think it is in your head ;) . If you spin the pulley of the AIR pump with the belt off it basically free-wheels.

thats what i thought. oh well, ill drive arround for a while with it on and then off and if i do notice any thing then ill leave it off because im sure i would have passed the chemical tests with it off. the visual would have failed, but my car is way low for what its allowed. Next ill try some dumps and see if i notice anything :D

The smog pump really just blew air through the system to help burn any "unburned" hydrocarbons and to help the catalytic converter run cooler. It barely used any horsepower to turn it-your alternator probably uses more!!!

i know that it just adds oxygen to the exaust mix so that the cats can burn up exaust gasses that havent been burnt better and it sort of waters down the mix a little and thats why i was confused as to why it would feel any diffrent with it off. it really sux not being able to drive it for more than one or 2 days a week, or else i would have an update for everyone. i figgure it was probably just the temp outside that made it feel diffrent. it was a good 98-100 degrees last time i drove it. the alternator uses a good 15hp dosent it? i know when i had my TA and all the belts flew off it ran like a dream! until it over heated of course. man LG4s suck.
