I am looking at a C-3 (68). I know how to check the vin and the engine numbers but where do I find the numbers on the transmission?

Hi Rodney,
FIRST post! Welcome!!!
Looking at a 68 NICE!
The transmission code and VIN derivative are stamped on the passenger's side of the main case. It's on the rear flange just where the tail shaft housing bolts to the main case.
The code will tell you the source and date of the transmission and the vin will tell you what car it was installed in. The same stamp was used for the VIN derivative on the engine stamp pad and on the transmission flange so they should look the same.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

If it's a slushbox, there's a plate on the right side with the numbers. Often, it's very hard to read. Sorry, no pics.

68s may be one year only on the tranny stamp location.
