Toughest part will be disconnecting (and correctly reconnecting for that matter) the speedo cable from the backside of the cluster. It has a metal clip you need to flip before you can pull. I had to remove some ducting and loosen the cluster to move it forward a bit before I could reach behind far enough.
Is you tach not working? If you are just thinking of having it refurbished because it is old and not been out of the dash in 20 years, I would leave it alone. Mine was fine, but the Speedo needed work, so while I had the dash out, I thought I'd have the tach overhauled. Bad idea. Now, it will not keep up with the engine, nothing else has changed. It is annoying as heck that it doesn't work right and particularly in light of the fact that there was nothing wrong with it before.
I used a rebuilder in Florida, just south of where I am.
actually the tach is the least of my problems, the speedo is off 12 m.p.h up to 60 then its perfect. its just annoying to always be doing the math.
My speedo was what started it for me also. If the tach is fine, I'd leave it alone.
There are quite a few vacuum hoses in the dash. I got them all back where they belonged, but I wished I had made a sketch of what went where before I started, because I wasn't 100% sure as I was putting it all back together. I took my driver's seat out to get a little more room.
