Default crank bushing hole

does anyone know if all sbc cranks have the same depth at the pilot end. the crank in my rebuild was already at .020 over and need to be turned. my machinist had a good crank that could go .010 but now I find I have trouble getting the trans all the way in the pilot bushing. is the depth i n the crank different or just not lining up?..............tks .....Troy

Sometimes the bushing is a little on the tight side and the input shaft doesnt wanna go on. If thats the case pull it out and try to slide it over the input shaft.
Learned the hard way about that one. Dont force it or youll pull it alll apart again soon .

Depth shouldnt be any different

Stick trans I take it?

yea orig. l82 trans 73 t top model. i tried the bushing and the clutch over the input and the splines just to make sure everything fit. I left the bell housing and the trans in the car and tried to fit it that way guess it just isn't line up yet. I'll go ahead and put the zbar back in and hook up the clutch and have my son depress the clutch to release the clutch disc and see if that does the trick. was trying not to take the trans out, any advice you can give would be great.....tks......Troy

The engine has to be at the right angle with the the tranny otherwise it will never go in. Do you have an engine leveler if not you need get one.

Sometimes you can slip a big prybar in there and pull pack on the release arm enough to let it line up. Doesn't take much.
