Parking brake

I have a 79 that I am having an issue with the parking brake. I have good shoes on it, but the parking brake lever is pulled up all the way and will not hold. Also, parking brake light on dash stays on. I made the adjustment in the adjustment screw in the rotor, opening it up all the way and then backing it up 8 notches and I thing I need to make the adjustment at the y extension, any suggestions?

you are correct in your thinking. Once you have adjusted your brake shoes, you need to adjust the cables to get the lever travel correct.

Also be aware that the brake light can be turned on by the brake failure switch.

The parking brake cable will stretch with use and need to be retightened....Good Luck!

My parking brake cable had stretched so much that I ultimately bought a new one and went thru the adjustment routine. Works great now.
