After months of searching, I think I have found a 2004r core. It is in a 1983 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. I have not seen it and it is still in the car. My concern is, will it fit a sbc and is this year model worth spending the time and money? It is going in a 75 replacing a th400. Thanks.

It has a bell housing that fits all GM v-8 motors .

That's the exact one I am using. I rebuilt it with a few mods. The speedo gears in it are likely set up for a 3.55 rear end gear.
Thanks for the replys. I think I will get it, it is in my budget and they are getting hard to find. Seems most of these old cars have gone to the crusher.
The Cadillac 2004r I purchased alledgedly came from an '88, with the later year up grades. I believe GM went with Torrington bearings in place of thrust washers on the later models. Check with Bulk Parts for rebuild parts and upgrades. Read up on Bowtie Overdrives web site for tons of good info. One of the best moves I made with my '79.
That is a negative side-effect of the "clunker" buy-back program. Lots of junked cars were turned in and crushed. Result: fewer 'old car' parts left.
That was an important part of the clunker program. The great minds behind it wanted the cars gone as well as the spare parts so no other cars would have a longer life. Forcing newer cars on the road and less global warming.

It was a bailout for the unions. It had the exact opposite effect, and resulted in lots of older cars remaining on the roads. Because the desire was to bailout the unions, only new cars qualified. Not everyone can afford a new car. So for example, someone could trade in a 8 year old jeep, and get credit for a new car. That jeep may have gotten 17 mpg, and been a decent car, but it was destroyed, and removed from the secondary market. Now someone driving a 20 year old pos that gets 10 mpg, and burns a quart of oil a week, can't afford a new car, and all the decent used cars have been destroyed as part of CFC, and what's left of the secondary market has had the price driven up by a lack of supply. So now, the person driving the 20 year old pos can't even afford a new used car!
CFC was the most IDIOTIC piece of legislation that's come out of DC in a VERY long time!!

But let's get back on topic. I'm interested in the 200R4 swap information that is forthcoming. I have one and want to put it in either my near-stock 77 or my slightly modded 80.

I picked this one up today. Passed on the Caddy. Seller had a receipt showing the valve body had just been rebuilt and a shift kit installed. Came with torque converter and new cable. It decodes to be from an 83 Gran Nat. or a turbo Regal.
Now if I could find a comprehensive list of what else I will need I would feel much better.
I researched yokes a lot. You will want to get a different yoke that will allow you to detach the drive shaft like your current set up on the 400.
The far right is what is on your TH400, the center is what is on your new 2004R now and I recommend chasing down one like the one on the left which is what I ended up with. It let me use the same ujoints that were on my driveshaft and makes the installation much easier.
