17x8 will fit. Don't understand your backspacing figure. With 4.5" BS, offset is not 0. Correct BS on a 8" rim is 4".
A 275x45 or 275x40 seems to be the more common tire size for a vette with 17in rims.
Actually, 255/50 R17 would be more appropriate with 8" width rims. The 275/40 R17 is recommended with 9.5" rims.
The 9.5" with 4.5" of backspace are direct fit so the 8" with the same backspace are surely no problem.

i would be a bit concerned with the advertised backspacing as it would put the rim really close on the t/a and possibly decrease your turning circle due to front tires rubbing the frame. if you can get the rims with the 4" backspace, you can be very comfortable the rims will work with no problems. the one issue you should discuss with A/R before you buy the rims though is the amount of 'relief' (i don't know what the correct term is) on the inside of the wheel around the hub. i bought some speedway wheels to mount racing slicks on my car only to find out that they hit the calipers. the calipers on our vettes stick out about 3/4" past the rotor hat so the new wheel has to go in at least that much from where the hub mounts to the rotor. make sense?
