My headlight doors open fine and no problems. When I drive at night they are bouncing/vibrating all over the place. Anyone have any idea what I should be replacing? I've never done this area before and would like some advice.
Thanks for the help

If the lock-stop is in place and the headlight door is locking in the up position, then the play is likely in the hinge bushings. They are available from Zip and don't cost much, but they are a pain in the rear to install. You'll have to remove the entire headlight assembly to replace them.

Thanks Shannon. Looks like I'll have to put up with them until she hibernates for the winter. They do lock fully in the up position. What do I expect for a 20 year old car, right

Had the same problem. Been a while back, so I hope I can remember right. With the doors in the open position, look (from under side) for adjusting bolts (lock stops). As I recall, each door has one located toward the fender side. They are hard to find and hard to get to. The secret is that the hex end of this bolt MUST make contact with the door open. If not then the lights will shake. If you see any gap, start turning the bolt until it just makes contact. If you find this to be your problem and have trouble getting to the bolts, repost and I'll pass along a trick that makes it easier. I'd do it now but I can,t remember without going out and taking another long look. Hope this helps.
Hey rip, thanks for the help. I didn't get to look at them yet, too much work lately. If you get a chance, could you post the "trick" you are talking about? That way I can print it out and use it when I try to fix it this weekend.
Thanks

Not sure if 74 & 82 will be exactly the same, but try this. With the headlight doors closed, open the hood. Look down into the opening between the front of the hood and front end. you will see actuators, hoses, etc. Now lean way over and look into the fender cavity.(hope this is making sense). There will be a piece if steel plate bent on an angle with threads sticking through it. This is the end of the adjuster lockstop. A flashlight might help you find it easier. It's the other end that needs to make solid contact with the frame to stop the bounce. I said it was a hex bolt, but after looking it's a round head with screwdriver slot. The trick I found is that it's much easier to adjust from the top by putting an acorn nut on the threads, running it down till it bottoms out then you can turn the bolt with a wrench and adjust as needed. I actually made a set of nuts (1/4" I think) by just spot welding a small plate on one end. I just left mine on there for future adj. if needed. You first need open head light doors then get under (with flashlight) and see about how much movement is needed. I had one side that took about 1/2 turn, the other about 3 turns. Adjust a little, then wiggle the lights with your hand. Keep doing this until you can't feel the wiggle anymore. You may be able to reach yours from the underside with a stubby screwdriver. I could never quite reach mine. Once you find it It's pretty clear how it works.
Sure hope this helps, bouncy headlights ARE annoying
good luck

Re: headlight doors bouncing all over!! (82dukman)
I had a neat experience with my headlights one night on the way home from work. There's this long straight country backroad that just begs you to floor it,and usually you'll find there are other cars on the road at the time,so you have to behave. Well, one night I hit this stretch and found I was alone with the whole road to myself. 125mph,here I come. The engine's screaming, center lines a blurr, and there goes the F#@#&**09-0ing headlight doors. Just close your eyes, and you too can experience what I saw. The very next day I got two black tywraps and perminently strapped the doors open. They have been that way for three years now and to be honost,I don't mind the way it looks.
