Does anyone know what holds the backing plates, LH & RH Sides, in place inside the body of the car IF one removes the Triangular headed bolt and 2 associated screws?
I'm looking to replace mine as two of the screws aren't the correct size, and I'm replacing the outer SS plates with new ones, and I'd like to replace everything as per original specs.

Hi jh,
Originally the threaded plate for the wedge and 2 screws was held in place inside the lock pillar by tabs that are part of the birdcage.
They're are various reasons the tabs might let the plate fall, but they shouldn't. Sometimes the plate has been torqued so hard because the screws are frozen that it's been broken loose from the tabs.
If you need to replace the outer trim plate completely, (and can't use Mike 71s method), you can reach the threaded plate from the interior if the interior trim panel is removed. You can then hold the threaded plate in place to replace the screws and wedge.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
You mentioned that you want to return the parts to "original specs"... the wedge, trim plate, and screws were chrome plated, not stainless steel.
