Default Temp Difference..Head vrs Intake

There was a thread about this topic a while back, and I was wondering what the engine temp difference would be, between running the temp sensor in the head vrs the intake. Did anyone come up with this statistic?
180-190 degree head water temp = ??? Intake water temp

I think the manifold should read around 10 degrees hotter than the intake. The water in the intake by the thermostat would theoretically have absorbed more heat from the motor having passed through the head then the water in the head. I cannot not really say since I have not tried the two positions in the same motor. My old motor had the sender in the head, but with the zz4 I had to use the intake.

When I moved my sender from the intake to the head I saw a 2-3º increase in readings. That was with no other changes.

Just don't put it on the water pump. If your thermostat sticks shut you will overheat and your gage will say its cool. I think the head is the best place for it. That is the part you want to watch the most.

When I installed my ZZ4 I couldn't find a correct temp sensor that fit in the Head position. I put my old (original) sensor in the intake right. I did some testing with a hand held infrared temp sensing gun and found that the intake position runs 5 to 10 degrees cooler than the head position. The ZZ4 intake is aluminum so it may shed heat a little quicker than cast iron so an iron intake may read a little hotter (I would predict not more than 5 degrees more than aluminum).

Years ago my first vette was a 67 coupe that I put a 350 crate motor in. The sender was in the intake on the old motor so I put it in the new StreetMaster intake. The temp was always running high. I installed a flex fan, cleaned up the cooling system but it still ran hot. I then installed the sender in the head and it ran pefect-180*.
On the 69 with 350 I always run with it in the intake and it's right on too. The temp is within a degree or two of the gauge. So now when it reads 190-200* on a hot day @3100 rpm I know it's running hot. THis engine runs right on 180* normally too.
The 72 base 350 motor has the original sender in the head and the temp never went over 180*

Hey Andies.. I like this idea with the 90 degree connector.. Mine sticks straight up, and interferes some with the rad hose. This will work great for me.... Thanks for all the info guys...
