L-82 had 2.02 heads late model lightweight casting and crack prone. You want better heads try some Vortec heads even though valves are smaller they outflow late model open chamber stuff. First valve to enlarge on a Vortec is exhaust valve.

somthing like this?
Vortec heads
58cc heads
170cc on the intake
1.94 heads
Roller tip rockers
Everything else being good on your motor, I'd opt for a set of World Heads. 2.02/1.60 C.I. heads. They're good heads, strong and will work fine on chevy small blocks from 200 to 450 horsepower..employ a good intake and carb, and your're all set.

most the double hump heads dont have screw in studs or accessory holes in case you need them.
For the money those iron eagles are hard to beat and will outperform the double humps all day. Plus everythings new
Is it a budget thing that has you looking at used heads?

if a set of 882 heads aren't cracked by now they will probably be o.k.

it is more of a budget thing...
what should i pay for a pair or dart heads?
and none of the heads i mention are worth the money?
740 bucks, brand-new aluminum heads from a reputable source. They won't perform like a lot of other, more expensive heads, but in a sub-1000 dollar head shootout, Car Craft said these perform about the same as Vortec heads, which is not bad. Definitely an improvement over an old, stock head. Edelbrock E-Street heads, and the dart SHP heads are worth looking at, too, a little pricier, but a little more performance, too.
Don't poo-poo the advantages that an aluminum head brings to the table, less weight, better heat dissipation, not to mention they are easier to lug around when installing them.
Summit 152123 are made by dart: cast iron large valve 72cc with screw in studs, .520 springs, and are assembled for $630 shipped to your door. I have a set on my carbed 1984 C4 and are great heads compared to some old rebuilt cast iron heads.
I agree with Scotty, spent a fortune trying to rebuild a set of heads off a '72 Corvette LT-1..even new valve seats, it was one thing after another (including one by the machine shop) $500 and nothing but a couple of boat anchors...decided on the world heads but dart would have been good too. Had no problems, have one set on a XE-268 cam engine and the other set on a Howard's Cam roller.
im looking at putting a pair of 202 heads on a 79 l-82
good ideas?
thoughts?
Both the L-82 and L-48 have 624's, the L-82 comes with 2.02's and four bolt mains. Aerohead is offering reconditioned Dart S/S heads very reasonable $$. Heart shaped chambers I believe. My 624's were milled and "pocket ported". Good luck.
