Default Identifying a Electrical Connector?

I need help identifying an electrical male connector that I found tie-wrapped under the break power booster (not connected). The plug has 3 wires Green, Red and Orange and the plug is a white plastic male connector. I purchaed the car early this summer and drove it all summer without any issues. It appears that the wiring runs up behind the driver side valve cover, but I do not see a connection point under the car where I found it not connected.

The car is a 1982 Corvette.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance,
Jack

Well the only thing on the car that is not working is the cruse control so this may be why. After looking at the service and assembly manual I still can not figure how this is connected. Maybe I am missing a part.

Any ideas?

That looks like a torque converter lock-up switch connector. Perhaps your transmission was changed or modified with a non lock-up or a different transmission that does not require this connector.

I called the previous owner who had the car for 12 years and he said he is unaware of any transmission problems or repairs. He said he never worked on the car and if it needed anything he took it to a GM service garage. The last service was done in 2012 which was charging the AC, full tune-up, Radiator Flush and Transmission filter changed with new fluid.

Maybe something happened to the connector when they did the transmission fluid????? but I cant seem to located where the plug commects????

Can anyone fill me in on what this means? I have zero knowledge on automatic transmission all my previous cars were 4-speeds, which I have rebuilt before. Is this something that needs to be fixed or can cause issues? If so I may need to take it in next spring.

It looks like the same connector and it is in the right area to be that connector but I am not sure if some other system may use that same style connector.

How many gears does your transmission have? If the answer is 4, then this would be the electronics connector for the transmission. 700R4 and 2004R's both use the same connector.

Do you know what transmission you have and if that is original to the car?

On my 700R4, that connector pushes down into the transmission along the driver's side of the transmission (I think near the rear of the transmission where pan meets transmission. This is essential for torque converter lock-up. Without it, I would suspect your vette would not get good gas mileage as converter would never lockup when driving at 45mph or higher.

I want to thank everyone for their help on this.

1) It is the stock 700r4 transmission.
2) Previous owner said he only had the filter/fluid changed in April 2012 no other transmission issues that he recalls, he did own the car for 12 years.
3) I am the 3rd owner and nothing in the history reports negative (if it can be trusted)

I just was under the car with a light and mirror and it appears that I found where the plug connects (driver side with the female connector facing up) looks like I may need to drop the exhaust to get to it because the space is very limited (I can’t get my hand in there). I am assuming that when the transmission fluid/filter was changed in April 2012 this was disconnected and never connected.

Questions: not sure but should a warning light come on because it was disconnected? And could any damage of happened? Car was driven about 700 miles since the April 2012 service.

As I mentioned before I have had no issues with the car and I also I have no knowledge of automatic transmission so this is all new to me. I was just doing some cleaning and noticed the cable hanging under the break booster.

Thanks again
