Has anybody ever replaced the rear quarters? Mine are bubbified! :mad It looks like bubba had big wide tires on at some point in time and bottom the car out and damaged both sides of the quarters. I am planning on cutting them out and replacing them with new ones and need some heads-up on what to expect. Any help please.
Hmmmmmmmmm, Bubba here, can I help? :D Sorry Steve, but I got big wide tires so I cut mine out and put flares on it. It should be very similar to replacing the original quarters. I'll put a link to the site, maybe it will at least let you know what you're in for. One question though, are you sure it wouldn't be easier to repair what you have?
Speaking of Bubbafied, I have a '70 on the right rear of my '68!!
Look closely around the tailpipe- It's square instead of round. Bubba had to work hard to trim the fender flare, so why couldn't he get the exhaust section right, or better yet just use a '68 quarter pannel!!
Dave, I wasn't saying that your a bubba if you have wide tires because I am going to put wide tires on myself. I was saying the repair was bubbified. I will have to post a pic so you can see what I am talking about. Looks like this guy tried to make him some home made flares. :U
Jay M, it's one of those things that make you say hmmmmmm! It looks like you have a 68 or 69 quarter. I think a 70-72 quarter has those things called rock kickeres behind the rear wheel like a mud flap.
If you look closely you can see where it is more square around the the exhaust tip, rather than round as is proper on a '69-'69. They did however cut off the mud flap.
There is supposed to be a chrome grommit around the exhaust tips, but it is impossible on the right side of my car because half of it is round, and the other half is square.
Steve this winter I plan on replacing both rear 1/4's on my 69 convertible as well as rear tail light housing. There are a number of good books on the market that go into detail on this process. One thing that I always do when replacing rear quarters on any car is get the door hinges all rebuilt and the doors lined up with the exsisting 1/4's so you can use the doors as a guide for the gap on the new 1/4's. A friend of mine that owns a body shop is going to help me with the replacements and body work. I think any expierenced body man could handle the job with no problems. Both of my 1/4's are the same way. Bubbaified. Good luck.
