Default Painting Dilemna

Finally landed a job close to work. This means I can sell the Jeep and drive the corvette daily, or walk to work on bad days. My dilemna is this, since the car will be kept outdoors and driven daily, should I go with an $800 dollar Maaco paint job or spend a few thousand at my local bodyshop. Car will see rain, salt, snow etc. Any insight would be appreciated.

Get a good paint job leave the vette at home and ride a bike. :D
The undercarage is what you need to be conserned about washing it often helps and buy sunscreens to protect the interior.

Unfortunately, I'm going to have to use it in winter. I did it throughout college without any problems. Going to have to use lots of epoxy paint on the chassis to protect from the road salt.

Once the undercarriage sees salt, it's game over. Most bolts underneath will freeze solid and be extracted by much pain. Not to mention frame damage. A pretty paint job does not make a "nice" Corvette below. I have never advocated a C3 as a daily driver. I will get flamed for this but buy a Toyota Corolla. Very dependable transportation; even beater versions. Save your C3 for better weather.

Well, if you can't keep the Jeep, then you can walk on days when there's salt on the roads. Make sure you put it up on jackstands every few months and physically wipe down the entire undercarriage and all the nooks and crannies. The C3 actually handles much better in snow than my C4. :p: Though the ABS of the C4 is better in the rain. :smash:

I love driving vettes. Especially in the cooler months. I drove the car to college for five years, (even in snow) and found driving the vette to be much safer than the F-bodies I've owned and rwd cars my parents owned. Besides nothing grabs more attention than seeing a C3 on the road in the middle of January. What I'll probably do is rent a wreck for January and February. The other ten months should not be a problem. As for the paint, I'll have Macco throw it on and then wet sand any orange peel out myself.
