Default question about 700r4

I hope I'm posting this in the right section.
I have a 1980 trying to get everything together that I need to swap out my TH350 to 700r4. This is a list of what I have.if I need anything else please let me know.

1=700 r4 transmission
2=cross member from bow tie overdrive
3=TV cable and plate for carburetor from bowtie overdrive
4=for now putting in a toggle switch for lock up eventually putting in the B&M lock out kit
5=and I know I have to shorten my drive shaft

is there anything else that I might need?
cross number from bow tie overdrive

Spedo housing and gears .. Dip stick tube.. new u joints . I think that will do her. Keep toggle it is best way as you will usually only want lock up on the highway.

I did forget to post that I do have a new torque converter and a new dipstick and new universal joints in the main drive shaft and half shafts.
But I did not think about the speedo housing and gears. Will the ones out of my TH 350 work in the 700r4?

350 gear will not work. I believe that Bowtie has a calculator to get the right gear on their web site. You will need wheel size, tire size and rear end gear ratio. I think that is it?

Yes it will as long as it is not the bullet housing and the more common silver dollar sized housing.

Ahh. I did not know that since I have bullet housing. Thanks for the correction and education. Happy New Year.

Good point. If you want your shifter to look right (P R N D 3 2 1) and work right Shirt Works or Bowtie sells this kit. And you have to reset the neutral safety switch also.

On that speedo cal stuff, don't go by the sites on ratios and tire diameters, they are way off....

go by a GPS which is stone accurate, and calibrate your car to agree at say 40-60 mph, I know MY car is dead nutz on up to 70 mph, at indicated 80 it's only 78, at indicated 100 it's only 94, ran outta room.....so dunno about anything higher....my car has a stock '72 speedometer and a 200 4r auto....

The guy who built and setup my 700R4 trans was right on with his calculations. I would do it to at least get close as possible. Some of the guys I know did not do it are way off. 10 + MPH off.

Yeh, I went by the trans/tire sites, and thought it was right on, measured many/several times but it was optimistic by 15% on the readings....Got into it with Turtle vette who jumped on my claim of 150 mph and my not noticing any airodynamics problems, on another forum, not here....SO this was years ago, and I found an extra 120 bux and bought a GPS, talk about a education, I was questioning the tach also...guess what?? I took a digital audio oscillator, keyed a power transistor, hooked to the tach signal on the HEI, turned on the key and calibrated with my Tektronics 453/decades old scope, and the silly tach became optimistic around 3000 rpm and totally optimistic by some 650 rpm at 6000 indicated, so BOTH of my instruments were lying to me....go figger....but I DID beat the bitch, I win.....

I never bothered to hook up the speedo on the motor home, just use the GPS with all the other attributes, makes life simpler....
