I have 245-60-15 BFG's all around, with 15' X 8" X 4" bs, rally wheels on my 73 and the rears fit perfect, but any wider and I would have to move the parking brake bracket.
The front tires will just kiss the frame rails when the steering is a full lock.
Check a tire/wheel guide and, depending on the tire manufacturer, you might find that the 255's may be too wide for an 8" rim.

I agree.
I didn't even notice until you pointed it out.
It looks good now but the additional 1/2" lower in the front would make the gap from the top or the tires to the lip of the fender equal on both the front and rear.

Yep, I like Ryans Car... I guess those are 15" turbines? I gave away a set of those.
I'm hoping I can get something in 16 or 17" that won't look too ghetto. Either those rally look cast wheels or minilite style. C3's ought to have some meat on them. ...imho

For me it's about the stance as much as the wheel. I wanted a tire that didn't protrude beyond the edge of the fender wheel and I didn't want ugly "gap" or a failure to fill out the wheel opening as it should. Just about 15 years ago we went with a full Vette Brake suspension front and back and I made full use of the ability lower the car effortlessly courtesy of the fiberglass transverse springs on both ends of the car.
Two shots to get the point across.
First from a few years back...... with the original wheels and the all too typically seen 15" 255/60 BFGs. I was very happy with this "look" but not really as enamored with the lack of performance "GRIP".......tires were absolutely the limiting factor in a seriously upgraded ability to carve those corners.
In this second shot modern 17" performance tires in a 255/50/17 on a Torque Thrust Wheel........exact same height and width as the original 15" BFGs but a whole lot more GRIP.

That is the look I was going for when I did mine too. I have to admit that I like yours better. Chrome Bumpers really do accent the wheels better or is it the other way around and the wheels accent the bumpers......I'm not sure. I just know your car is a good example of why Chrome bumper cars, generally speaking, look better than cars with out 'em when-ever a Chrome or in this case a polished aluminum wheel is used. As for lowering the front end more...... I don't think you really need to. It's already pretty low and it matches up well with the back and honestly I'm thinking of raising my car to just about where you are now. It's no fun worrying about scraping headers on crappy pavement and/or speed bumps ....that gets old FAST.

HI Krystal, if you were going for chrome look why did.you paint the lower rocker panel area black? You could be able to buy a set used from someone installing sidepipes (thats another option to make the chrome wheels look a bit more in place) another option is chrome mirrors and ofcourse keep.the rear tailights stock ( no "choked" out bubble lenses).
I.think your car with "chrome" rockers and mirrors would look more in place of youre going for that look and the investment is tiny (compared to chrome bumper conversion and/or sidepipes)
Anyhow just my $.05. When it comes to some options you have. The brushed aluminum rocker panel cover is visually connecting front and rear wheels, in your car its black so that connection is missing and your car looks "wheel swapped"

A lot has changed on this car over the years, not much of anything original is still on the car or in it so it's not as if I'd have any problem with the idea swapping out the rocker panels.......the mirrors are another story though. I really doubt I'd like the "look" of the car as much with the older style mirrors.

New shoes... 17x8 with 4" Backspacing on the fronts running Nitto 555 255/50ZR17 and 18x9.5 with 5" backspacing on the rear running Nitto 555 285/40ZR18's. I ended up putting on 1/4" spacers on the rear to clear the e-brake cable. I needed to remove the e-brake brackets as well. They will be relocated to the top of the Trailing Arm, and at that point, I will probably be able to get away with no spacers.
