My 2 cents...keep the CCC distro. Works great with full CCC control. I just brought back my 81 to life after the PO gutted the CCC... ran like garbage, could smell it a mike away. Now back to CCC and she's running great

Unless you are doing some significant modding you might as well keep what you have and rebuild it (if it needs it). But I went that route, and never could get it to run as good as the original computer controlled carb. I got close, but never as good, it really does work well. And I think you can even get away with some mild mods too like headers, etc.
When I purchased my 81 everything was there other than the O2 which made it run like a dog. I have long tube headers with the O2 in it now and the car runs well. I just purchased an OTC Monitor 85 for 20 bucks on Ebay so now I can fine tune and have the CCC running perfectly. I decided to keep it because it's basically a one year system (I think some of the 80 models had it) and it makes the car unique in that its the last model with a carb and the first with a computer. Just my .02.
