That would make sense, I'll look at the diagrams again.

The distributor connects to the ECM via a 4 wire connector. This is the connector that is removed to set base timing. The 7 pin module inside the distributor will provide some ignition advance, enough to limp home, but the ECM is needed for full operation.

Thats correct, this is the actual connector, only found it listed at Ecklers, but no longer made either...

Ecklers Lists it here
Its called: Corvette Distributor Terminal Block, ACDelco, 1981-1982.

If you are missing this...get on e-Bay, I'm sure you can find one.

#2 reason we ditch the CCC on our cars..........the engine looks like sit.
Really embarrassing to have a nice ride at the Friday night event, but can't open the hood.
Around these parts, we still have to smog our 32 year old cars. So everything has to be right.
But I asked my smog guy if I could move these components around so it looks better.
He's a cool dude.
Said if everything is still there,
Doing what it's supposed to do,
And will pass on the rollers,...........you can move this stuff all around...
So now I have AFR heads @ 10.2 comp. Performer intake etc.....
And the engine compartment looks like one from the 60's.
Wish I could post picks I 'd give you the tour.
Basically I hid every thing like smog pump, lines, wires, hoses.
And as everyone says , The CCC runs great. Your going to like it.
p.s. Tell me about the MAP trick. I need a cam to improve on the heads and stuff...........More later.

ramair bryan:
The MAP trick is to replace the +5V reference voltage going to the MAP with an adjustable voltage source. I will search around to find the details and post them.
But now that I have found the vacuum leak, I am going to remove this and see how the CCC does. The cam is not that big of a cam and the CCC will likely handle it just fine.

Its funny how the same guys who talk about how great the CCC is are telling you how to test for voltage and fool the system yadayadayada.....I say jerk the crap out put in non computerized parts and forget about it, no fooling no computer nothin. Mine runs great, and it was not that expensive, dizys, even good ones are inexpensive, and a good used quad can be bought cheap and tuned. I get 20MPG highway, and I never have had to touch it since. Fires on first crank every time. We have no inspection so off came all of the smog stuff, on went headers, and out came the ugly wires for the computer. A lot cleaner engine bay in my opinion, and runs as good as any CCC car or better. The CCC is fine if thats what your after, but there are 2 sides to every coin my friend.

Of course, 81Pilot NEVER operated his car with the CCC system being operational (based on his post from a couple of years ago). So he has no actual experience at knowing how a FUNCTIONING '81 C3 CCC system behaves.

You are correct that is why the POS came off! I got tired of trying to make it work right, I had the companents swapped in a couple of hours and have NOT had to touch them since. And all you do is sing thier praises. I have asked you , Oh king of 1981 Corvettes, many many many times, what is better about the CCC and you have not one single solitary good answer, you lie to people about mileage and driveability and start up being so much better than a non computer system, mine matches every comment you have ever made. AND I have never had to do all the incessant trouble shooting that goes along with the CCC. So the next time you chime in do it with some facts. And not your guesses. I agree when the CCC is setup properly it works good, but when it needs troubleshooting it is a huge pain in the ****! It adds no benefit, it does NOTHING better than a conventional system setup right (easier). It is too rudimentary to be of any real benefit. I will continue to say my peace on this and you will no doubt continue your rebuttles.

Hmmm...Only code shooting I had to do was to get the previously disconnected components hooked back up, set the carb up like the book says and it ran just fine until I took it apart.
I can't say that the CCC system is any better or worse than non computer parts, its just different and not all That different.
If the parts are all there its a simple thing to get them functioning as designed and save a few $ in the process.
The CCC system is perfectly capable of handling middle of the road HP improvements like a bumpier cam, duals, air cleaner and the like. You Can get more of a range of timing advance from a vac advance dizzy, but that may or may not be a problem.

I have to agree with you on this one. I have tried to work with the CCC but can't seem to get it to function correct. We don't have smog inspections here so all that is gone. Am going to swap dizy this weekend.

I have absolutely NO PROBLEM with an owner of an '81 removing the CCC system or doing any other thing to THEIR car that they wish to do.

However, I DO have a problem with folks recommending ditching useable components and systems ON OTHER FOLKS' CARS...and presenting themselves as having actual knowledge of such issues...when they really have no such knowledge or experience.

Do what you want with your car. Just don't advise OTHERS to do the same, just because you want them to....

Not trying to ruffle any feathers with anyone just trying to figure out how to get my Vette to function.

The 4 pin connector comes from the CCC system and controls the timing advance. There system will set without it connected, as a matter of fact you have to disconnect it to set the base timing, 8* is what the book calls for. I use 12* and then let the CCC and Dizzy runit from there, but I can't remember what the max is.

I represent myself with integrity unlike you. You always act like some type of guru on things especially cars you don't own, so get off your high horse. I just posted my opinion and what I did, let the OP decide from repies, nobody appointed you the keeper of the threads!......and I have owned and built hundreds of different cars over the years with the same crappy problems and computer type as the 81 vette has, oooops they were not Vette's my bad.........your a peice of work. Mind your own business and stay out of mine! Now I see why so many leave this place. I left for a while and you are my welcome back. Jerk

Its possible the ignition control module is bad. It is inside your distributor. Worth a try since it seems to be about $10 - $20 from Rock Auto

Not to poor on gasoline -- I keep my CCC because that is the way the car was intended and I like to keep it that way -- it is ugly, and complicated and all that, but it is a time capsule of the state of the art of the car industry in 1981. I get a lot of satisfaction on understanding and repairing a system that is significantly less obvious than older or more modern systems. Just an antique myself I guess.

I agree with WAJulia - replace the guts of your distro, not too bad on the wallet and an hour’s worth of work. the 4 pin connector is the interface back to the ECM for all timing control. Disconnect it and try to set it close to 12 degrees, once you do that and plug 4 pin back up you’ll get close to 36 total degrees of timing (*if I rem correctly). Again being an 81 owner that chose to get the CCC operational, now that I have gone through every component of it, I actually love having it in place. Run's great too. Nothing is ever easy in the beginning

** And Ill say it again as well – go on ebay and get yourself a used “OTC monitor 85”, this is the Scanner for your 81. I have it and its amazing – this will cut down all of your CCC troubleshooting to minutes vs hours and playing the guessing game

Your ECM could be bad
I know of several members on here that have working ECMs they would offer you
