pro comp heads
i am looking at aftermarket heads and have read mixed reviews on these
can anyone give me their thoughts on pro-comp heads.
the would be going on a 79 l-82, with dual exhaust magnaflow

I don't know anything about the Pro-Comp heads but Hot Rod magazine did a test on all heads selling for under 1,000.00. I think the article was in Sept 2011 or 2012. You can probably google the article.

I'm leaning towards the Patriot's which apparently are the same as ProMaxx sold by Summit.

Capt. Shark, thanks for the help. Seems like my memory goes down hill a little more each year. I actually have a set of patriot heads on my 76 and have no problem with them. I guess if I were going to the drag strip or really abusing my car, I might have gone with something different, but for around town and on an open highway, with my 4 speed, they work great for me. I also know 1977L48 has a set he is happy with.

i have the 190 runner 64 cc chamber ones on my L-82. i would recommend buying them bare and have a competent person assemble them .( as i did ) the castings are fine but the components are cheap. i did a good bit of port and bowl work on mine and they work very well. a really nice bost in performance. if you have the L-82 cam the 1.6 rockers will help you utilize the extra flow.

If I were going to build a firebreather, I would seriously consider AFR heads. For what I'm looking to do, though, I just can't see double the money for the AFRs over the Patriots (ProMaxx). Specially as I'm just planning on keeping my L82 intake and cam.

Angleplug,64cc chamber,screw-in studs&guide plates. 1.5 and 1.6 roller rockers, push rods
there are the specs for the, they came off of a 383 that was running 5.9 1/8ths.....they cost me 500 with everything

what heads? are the springs o.k for the application. has anyone been through them ? might be a very good deal. if you have the L-82 cam i would use the 1.6 rockers all around, but both are fine.

Pm the owner of the post above you or go to straub technologies web site. For a budget type build they sound idea with flow numbers at 250 cfm @ .5" on a 195cc runner for the money, the out flow the edelbrock rpms that I had on my l48. I've not seen them personally, but my dealings with Chris have been good and hes got a good rep on several forums. I'm an afr fan but for dome one not looking to spend $1500....

What make of head? Flow numbers? What size of runner? Springs will need to match the intended cam.
