planning on installing a 200r4 yet this winter. the 69 with the highly desired L46 350 300HP with 3:08 gears needs a little help out of the start gate. knowing the 200r4's first gear is a little lower I was thinking that a higher stall on the convertor would help also. so what do guys think would be a good choice. Thanks Terry
With a highway rear and a fairly low 1st gear I think a 2300 stall would be an all around good street burner! 2300 and down stall converters are much cheaper and I'm pretty sure you can still maintain the lock up function.
You want an efficient light weight 9.5 inch Vigilante. They are so efficient that lockup only changes a couple hundred rpm. I drove mine for 2 years with no lockup function.
With hardly any power I would get a 3000 because these kind don't slip like cheap TC's that most people are familiar with
just use a 2000 rpm 82 from a 82 vette 700r4 they use a 27 spline
They also weigh like a boat anchor and being very inefficient turn HP into heat. 1982 was the first year of the 700R4 and the tranies didn't last very long. Junk from 30+ years ago?
It is also like putting a 40 lbs fly wheel on a stick car.
You ever heard about going to lighter flywheels? It is the same thing with a TC
I vote for 3000 stall with a lockup. Made a world of difference for me. You don't even know its a high stall - until you need it. And get a good tranny cooler.
