Default Clutch fork ?

On a '69 BB, can the clutch fork be taken out of the bell housing after removing just the linkage?
Reason I'm asking is that it looks like the fork may not be installed on the throw out bearing correctly. The spring clip may be behind the bearing groove instead of in it.

I don't think so, because your fork is also engaged via another spring on the ball stud pivot, meaning you'll need to push it towards the center to release it , but because the throwout brg and input shaft are present you can't, that darn theory of relavity [no two things can ocupppy the same space at the same time] comes into play. you should be able to remove the rubber seal on the fork, and with a mirror and flashlight inspect to see if you engaged the fork on the bearing correctly. best of luck

Yea, that's what it looks like.
So, drop the trans and reach into the bell housing and r&r the bearing?

drop the trans? isn't the crossmember part of the frame? auto crossmembers were removal but not the std trans ones. not trying to make more work for you, I'd just pop the engine. hope you're not as senior as I'm these engine r&rs are getting old. I have a scatter shield under the work bench for a couple years and can't talk myself into yanking the engine. at least it's winter and the time of year to make our cars right. have fun.

I think it would be easier to just remove the tranny vice remove the engine. I replaced my clutch once with the engine still in the car. My B-W is not that heavy and you can use a small jack to help out. But I was younger then.

I too have removed the tranny on my SBC '69. It's (all the early C3s) an aluminum case Muncie, so not too heavy. The cross member is welded in but that doesn't present much difficulty. Get the car up high enough so you have plenty of room and can use a creeper.
I have also removed the engine; removing the tranny is much, much easier.

The clutch does work, but the pedal adjustment is a little off. I think I'll add this to my list.
