Rocker Arms wth???
After running my engine for an hour or so after a complete top end rebuild, both intake and exhaust rockers on #1 cylinder were so loose, the valves were not even opening. (obviously misfiring the cylinder) Almost all the others were in need of adjustment too. Thanks goodness for push rod guides, cause the rods never poped out of the rocker pocket, and everythings OK. After adjusting all the valves I fired it up again and it was beautiful music... untill after 5 minutes later... #1 was clattering again. Why are the adjusting nuts comming loose? I have comp cams roller tips with the stock looking tapered top adjusting nuts, on top of Arp rocker studs.
Would some kind of lock nut over the adjust. nut work? :confused:

ARP says not to use the stock locknuts on their studs. I can't remember the whole story, but something about the profile of the stud tends to let the nuts work their way loose. You need to use a jam nut setup (which a lot of the roller rockers come with) with the ARP studs. In my admittedly limited experience, the koolnuts work pretty well.

Readjust the lifter. Then mark one of the flats on the nut. (***** punch, scribe, majic marker) Run the motor for another five minutes and look at the nut again to see if it has moved. If it moved you need to replace the nuts. If it didn't then you need to look at the pushrod or lifter for wear.
