Default vacuum pressure

1969 base 350. If I measure the vacuum pressure at the manifold, what is the acceptable range of pressure. I am sure this is posted hundreds of times, but I couldn't find it through multiple searches

Thanks

A stock base engine might have vacuum level of 17-21" Hg; an engine with a radical cam might make around 10" Hg.

With a stock 350/300, you should see close to 20" hg and steady at idle. What you actually get depends upon the carburetor adjustment and where your initial timing is set. Below 18" hg suggests a problem in your tuneup and you want to check your ignition timing and your carburetor idle mixture adjustment.

If you are new to using a vacuum gauge, here is a good article to read:

Bought a vacuum gauge and followed the instruction on secondchancegarage. Reset the timing based on the recommendation. Vacuum at 21 now. I thought the car was correctly timed and running well. Huge improvement in performance. Thanks
