hi guys,
sorry if this is a repost but i couldnt find any old ones.
i have a 77 corvette with a 4 barrel
and a automatic turbo 350 trans.
im having problems with it going into reverse and when i put it into drive. it simply wont go into reverse and when i put it into drive it bogs down the engine alot and even kills the engine sometimes.
im pretty sure it will have to come out to be fixed but im wondering how much it will cost.
and yes i made sure the it had plenty of fluid
i appreciate any inpute
also the trans doesnt seem to disengage from the engine.
when the car is stopped with my foot and the brake it trys quite hard to keep the car moving

Price to fix the trans depends on if you're planning on a DIY project or paying someone to do it. You can figure on a DIY price between $400-$500 including a rebuilt convertor and a couple of hard parts. You really won't know what (or if) hard parts are needed until you get it opened up. If you have a shop do it for you, unless it's someone you have done business with before, you're at their mercy.
A TH 350 is not really difficult to rebuild. And they can be built pretty stout. I did one a few years ago for a guy that was racing every weekend. 455 in a GTO. He ran 6 seasons before he gave up and sold the car. Never had any trans problems. He broke darn near everything else on the car- rear axles, differential, u-joints, and I forget what all else, but he never had a trans problem.
I've seen a couple spacer plates that had grooves cut in them from the check ball moving around, but never seen one "stuck". And the ones with the spacer plate grooved had way high mileage- well over 200k.
Rookie comment: If the transmission has an electric lock-out solenoid, they can fail causing the problem that you have.....about a $50 DIY repair........$100 for a Trans. shop to make the repair. The repair can be done by removing the pan only.
