There wasn't a difference in the bb/sb distributor shield but there was a difference between the 'box' used through most of 70 and the 'cover' used in 71.

OK, my 454 was a January 1971 coupe and came with the lid only and no "extensions" on the side to hide the wires. I dont see the chrome side pieces on any BB 71 Vettes.

That because bb engines that were in cars with radios had braided covers/sleeves that the individual spark plug wires slipped into and were the full length (almost) of the wires.
These took the place of the vertical and horizontal chrome shields on sb cars with radios.
