Default oil flow through the bypass

Could someone explain to me which way the oil flows through the oil filter and how it interacts with the bypass in the block and the bypass that is in the filter.
Thanks

The oil enters the filter through the outer ring of holes and returns to the engine through the center hole. If the filter becomes restricted the bypass in the oil filter mount circulates oil past the filter back to the engine. If the filter has a bypass it circulates the oil through the filter without going through the filtration material.

Now you got me confused which is easy to do.

I'm looking at my new 454 short block and just got done putting in the bypass assembly for the oil filter to screw onto. The only way that I can see is that the oil must first go through the center hole, permeates through the filter media then out through the top, via outer holes.

Apparently I'm not understanding this correctly if you could help

Look at the images attached. Look at your oil filter outer holes you dont see a rubber flap blocking the holes permitting oil to only go in not out? Look at the Fram HP4 as an example.

MY BAD...... I understand you now. I was focused on the main holes underneath the oil filter adapter, and did not see the main oil hole above the oil filter bypass assembly that comes right from the oil pump. Yes; into the outside holes first, then through the filter media back in to the block via the center hole. Now I also understand how that little bypass valve operates using pressure differential sending the oil right back into the block.

Tell me i got correct.

Correct, just a visual thing from two different viewpoints, good luck with your new engine.
