Re: tach drive ? (danzig74c)
Looking at the photo and I'd say there isn't a tach drive connection on it.
The tach drive connector looks just like a speedometer connection (actually, it basically IS a speedometer connetor) as is located opposite the vacumm advance under the base plate. Simplier put, the tach drive connection would be about 90 degrees to the right of your arrow and is about as big around as a nickel.
Question, this is off a 74, did the 74's have a mechanical tach or was it electric. My 73 is mechanical, not sure what year they converted to electic.

Yes the last mechanical tach drive was in 74.........:LOOKS like you are missing the adapter where the cable screws in
I'd get a new one if I were you, this one looks pretty hosed :( (or a good used one). They are pretty expenisve though. Or you could get an electronic tach and distributer, might be more economic and definetely more reliable in the long run
On my '70 the tach cable goes on the other side from the vac canister thinggie. ie, the vac connector is on the pass side, the tach hookup is on the driver side. I don't know if they changed by the time yours was built though.... ~Juliet
Dennis, that doesn't look like my tach drive distributor. If you need a tach drive distributor check with Lars and see if he might have one. Another possibility is to check EBay, usually there are a few Corvette tach drive distributors for sale there. It will probably be in rough shape, but Lars or Tom454 can do a good job rebuilding it for you. I rebuilt my own with parts from Zip and Lars for less than $100.00. It is as good as new.
There are a number of brands of distributor avail that let you keep the mech tach drive but give you electronic ignition....this is so that you can keep your stock tacho in the dash......if you dont mind swapping the tach guage for a later electronic one then you can use a later model distributor w/o the mechanical drive.....74 was last year for mech drive tach...john :chevy
i see i could better buy a new tach meter electronic i geuss....
Uhm, sell it! :)
I didn't know your distributor was THAT hosed until I saw it last Sunday.
Try to get a used one first and it all else fails it's electronic time. I don't have a vac. advance distributor anymore (except for the malloy one I need for my own engine) I only have el. HEI ones.
Let me look around for you what I can find (cheap)
