Default 76 seat frame question

I have my seats apart to replace the foam and reweld 3 nuts for seat back adjustment. The springs were sprung from either lots of use or a large rider, so I tightened them uo. While working on the springs, I noticed one side of the bottom channel seemed to be bent towards the center. Since I had the springs off, I squared up the channel. When I removed the other seat, it also had the bent channel. Is this a typical problem or was it supposed to be bent? Other than the slides the only thing under the seat is the seat belt retractor. Was it bent for clearance?

Before I paint the seat frames, should I beat them out the way they were?

I'm not certain what "channel" you beat up to begin with. How about a pic?

Sorry. Here is a before and after de-rusting.

On the rusted frame, there is a bulge at the bottom. You can see where I pounded it out on the cleaned up one.

This seat reinforcement might be what you need.

I just redid my 73 seats and both frames had the exact same bend yours had. No real idea why; there were similar oddities with the backs as well.

My 76 was the same way, like you I straightened the drivers side frame before realizing both frames were that way. I plan to put it back to the way it was, as I believe this is normal.

Use the $25.00 reinforcements available from the various vendors.
