I have a leaking heater core in my 1971 Corvette and it appears that I should be able change it from the engine side of the firewall. It would save time over the service manual's instructions to remove from inside passenger side. It's a BB non AC car. Anybody have experiences to share?
I'm really not sure if you can change the core from the engine side (but it would be nice, a lot easier to get at than from the dash) Non-AC might be possible
Several posters have given very detailed instructions on doing it here. Check with Paul74, I think he's done it both ways???

I have never done the job from under the hood, by removing the the piece the heater motor mounts to, but I remember there are threads on the forum describing how to do it. Plenty of pictures too. If/when my heater core leaks, I plan to do it that way. No more removing the heater box inside the car for me.

I've done it a couple of times over the years to my non-a/c 72. It's done from the engine compartment. Much easier than an a/c car. Suggestion: take your new heater core to a local rad shop and get them to check/redo the soldering. The quality of the new cores these days is not good. Antifreeze on the carpet is a bitch to get out. Tell me how I know!!

Yes, I did a couple (non-A/C) from the engine side. But they were not big block cars. In any case here you go:
