I ordered two door hinge springs from Corvette America. The documentation says that both sides (upper "S" and lower "S") have a notch. However, the part does not.
My problem is, that although I am using the correct installation tool to turn the spring in order to align the spring, it doesn't seem to want to stay in place. So, am I crazy...does the upper and lower part of the spring need to be notched in order for it to sit properly.
Not really a notch, more like a flat spot on the springs.
Go to Tech Tips, and see my post on how to install door springs.......I found that the position of the door is critical in performing this installation. Good suggestion to position a towel at bottom of door below hinge area, as you probably will drop the spring a couple of times before you get the hang of it. Don't force the spring! I did the first time I tried to install, and broke the spring and had to buy another.
You'll mutter to yourself getting the first one in. Once you get the trick of it, it's easy. Use the tool or make one from an old screwdriver. Tip: Put an old towel in the space below the hinge to "catch" the spring when it falls out the first few times you're fiddling with it. Keeps chips and nicks to a minimum :yesnod:
