A couple questions friends, Who makes a decent double roller timing set for the street, pre 85 block with Comp retro roller cam ? Part number ?
I will probably sound a little ignorant here but most of the sets I have looked at have the 3 keyway crank sproket wich allows you to advance or retard 4 degrees, what is the need to advance or retard the camshaft ?
I have always used Cloyes true roller chain with gears. Another plus with the Cloyes is that the crank gear is keyed to allow for camshaft advance or retard. Advancing the camshaft is usually used to create torque, retard is to enhance horsepower. It is all relevant to the type of camshaft being used (specs) and your specific application ( drag, roadrace, street/ rpm range, rear gearing etc.)
I am sure others will chime in with what they use. There are a few choices out there. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I use the cloyes as well on my roller cam gen 1 engine. Summit part # CLO-9-1100.
Being able to advance or retard the timing allows you to alter mostly the intake valve closing timing. All the timing events will be changed but it's generally the intake closing that makes a big difference.
So if you get a cam that you want to come in a little later with more rpm capability you might retard your cam a little. Or If your Intake closing is too late giving you poor bottom end performance and want more then advance the cam a bit.
Choosing the right cam for you application is the best option, but that doesn't always happen.
