Default Long water pump and frame clearance

I was at the Good Guys show yesterday and talked to the guy in the March Performance booth. I told him I was interested in brackets and pulleys for a Gen II PS pump and an alternator. I told him I bought a Weiand long pump and needed brackets and pulleys for that pump.

He told me you can't use a long pump in a C3 or the crank pulley will hit the cross member. I don't know, the engine is out of the car and this is my first Chevy. What's the real story on that?

Thanks!

OK, guess I'll have to notch the cross member.

Thanks

Can't use the short pump. The brackets I want to use require the long pump. I'm moving a 100 Amp alternator to the right side and am going to use a new Gen II PS pump like the LS motors use for the Steeroid rack and pinion. The brackets for both require the long pump.

Why would you prefer to cut the frame over using the right parts ?

Some how I got away with using a long pump in my 80 with out notching frame. I converted to a stock F body serpentine belt drive and every thing fit under the hood but the hard AC line coming off the compressor. I will have to find a different line setup.I am using electric fans so I don't have the stock shroud.

What would you consider as the right parts? I don't have any interest in keeping the car original, my goal is to make it a better driving car and more enjoyable to use.

I'm not using the stock shroud or fan either. I wonder if using a smaller under drive crank pulley would make a difference?

I used a serp set up from an 87 camaro with the stock crank pulley and a new long/camaro water pump and have no issues. also not using the stock shroud or mech fan.

Do you know the diameter of the crank pulley you're using? The stock crank pulley that came with my car is 7 5/16" in diameter. The crank pulley I'm looking at is 6.6" in diameter.

Thanks for checking! Ok, your serpentine crank pulley is larger in diameter than my factory pulley. Interesting.
