Default Another 68 Lighting question

68 coupe, just finishing taking dash apart, reworked the gauges, put new bulbs for dash light, new headlight switch and ignition switch--put all back together and now NO DASH lights, taillights dont work and only light I get is the radio??? Amateur hour electrical ability!!! where did I go wrong.. Need some help- also replaced the 4amp fuse to no avail. The dash lights didnt work when I got the car but figured(incorrectly) that it might be the headlight switch Thanks for any help Paul

You do have the **** turned to the highest setting to make your dash lights light up....which should be there already due to your radio light being on. The metal cage portion of your dash lights needs to be grounded to work.

For what it is worth...I prefer to use the 1895 light bulbs that have a brass socket on them instead of the shiny silver design from some manufacturers. The brass ended light bulbs seem to lock in place much better and do not fall out when they are being installed due to the pins coming out from the side of the socket are very well made.

thanks, I use the brass ones as well. You'd think with new bulbs, new light switch and rebuilt gauges, good fuses etc that the lights would work.If I'm missing a gorund somewhere,I have no clue where to look Puzzling!!

check all your grounds. 1 each on the speedo, tech, and center gauges. Also there is a ground to the birdcage on the drivers side.

Thanks apparently my dash has been out previously,I didn't notice any ground wires attached anywhere on the individual pieces. I have a schematic, will have to study it to find out where these are Thanks again Paul

Speedo and tach have separate grounds out of the dash harness. The console trim plate has a ground out of the harness; pretty much nothing else has a separate ground.

The dash harness itself has a ring connector and grounds on the driver's door post of the bird cage. Make sure that ground has good, clean contact.
