Default '69 convertible deck lid fitment

My question is about the weatherstrip on the deck lid. At least I think that's where my problem lies. I have never been able to adjust the lid on my 69 convertible to sit flush with the body. It sits up about 1/8 of an inch. Not too big of a deal except that it spoils the body lines and it drives me crazy looking at it. The weatherstrip is soft and healthy, but I really have to muscle the lid down onto the latches to close it. I've already worked with the hinge shims a dozen times,as well as the strikers, and it's not going any lower. Has anyone run into ill fitting aftermarket seals that can cause the lid to sit high? I'm looking at replacing the weather strip in an effort to remedy this issue (unless someone else has had this problem and it's something else entirely) but don't want to end up with the same fight. My first choice would be Corvette Central for parts. Anyone got any words of wisdom on this one??

Where is it sitting UP 1/8"????? The sides or back edge.

Did you actually loosen up the catch that is mounted ON THE BODY???

OR...are you messing with the latch on the deck lid itself????

I usually get the deck lid set and adjusted with NO weatherstrip on it...and then install the weatherstrip CORRECTLY. I often times set them a little bit low to compensate for the weatherstrip.

Also this is ASSUMING that there is/are no stress cracks or weakening of the deck lid itself which would make what ever you attempted to be useless.

Add shims to the forward bolt position and it will lower the lid.

Forward hinge bolts have 2 shims each. This torqued the rear corners down pretty close, but the forward corners still ride pretty high. Body mounted latches are dropped to the point of bottoming on the mounting holes, deck side catches have no shims. I have to lean all of my body weight (200 lbs) onto the latch points to lock them in. If I back them off the deck rides even higher. No signs of any glass work having been done in the past to either the body side rail or the deck.

Factory weatherstrip on a 69 was different. If you still have the end parts of the old w/s assembly there, new style w/s with the L shape ends will be too thick in the front.
