I need to swap the drive shaft yoke of the differential with another yoke so my drive shaft will fit my 3.70 geared differential. Does anyone know how to do this or know a shop and price. The neighborhood deeds are fixing to tow my car, i've got about 1 week to do this...HELP!!!!
If you have access to a 1/2" impact wrench it comes right off. If not, use a big pipe wrench to hold yoke and remove nut with regular ratchet and socket.
Replace the front seal while you're there and reinstall the new Yoke. Then just apply a little loctite to the threads ( a new nut is a good idea) and just tighten the nut back to correct torque specs. The only problem you will have is if you overtighten it and crush the crush sleeve between the pinion bearings anymore. This won't happen if you just use a torque wrench and tighten it down.
Someone handy with an impact can make the whole swap in about 3 minutes.
If you need help send me an I/M and I'll try to see if I can get by to help out.
You can also get "two sized" adapter u-joints at any parts store to adapt things together. Very common.
I'm not totally sure on the diff. Everyone that I have asked have said that I have to remove all the gearing and all that crap to swap them out....You seem like you've done it and I would really like your help since you seem to know what to do..I don't want to mess anything up.
Call Fairfeld Auto Center in Cypress and ask for BJ. He has the number to a guy local that does diff repair on vettes all the time. His price is very reasonable. Tell BJ that Russ Fulks with the Corvette told you to call him.
