Just looking for some ideas on the best way to repair the front air dam (see pics). I ordered new rubber extensions but the air dam itself has a nice crack in the middle. I believe it's urethane. I've never done much bodywork and not sure what to use on urethane (fiberglass, bondo ? something else ?).
It can be repaired....but whatever you do....do not wipe it with a solvent of any type...which effects the urethane...just to let you know. Special cleaners which are water based is what should be used...even though I know many guys who do not give a crap and do it "they" way when they repair them. Just remember...if the top surface is not worth a crap for adhesion...how do you expect it to stick.
Product is also available in two larger tubes as well as in a dual cartridge
which requires a special applicator.
You will want to use some fiberglass reinforcing mesh on the back side
of the air dam. Mesh is the same product used between sheets of drywall.
First sand and clean the area. Spread some of the repair filler
across the cracked area and then press some of the mesh into the product.
After it dries spread some more filler over the mesh.
Sand and clean the front of the air dam. Apply the filler over the area
and sand when dry. If needed use a finishing filler over the area.
Evercoat makes one for flexible bumpers.
