Default 76 rear break sticking

I just purchased a 76 vette. When I apply the breaks and stop the vehicle, everything seems fine.,when I start to take off again, I hear a slight grinding sound and the car hesitates slightly like something is catching on the left rear side. Could this be the break calipers sticking?

Semi common things that could be looked at

The flex lines rot from the inside and can look fine on the outside, fluid goes into the caliper and then the co lapse and hold the brake on.

Parking brake bits have broken/out of adjustment and are the cause of the noise.

after than things get more involved (read expensive)

U-joints, rear bearings....

Mooser's list is a good one, and the flex hoses are common culprits. I would go there after first considering the fluid in the rear diff, especially if you notice the sound a bit more on a turn from a stop. I had a similar symptom with a Corvette once so I looked at the fluid in the diff and I'm pretty sure it was 30 years old.

The hesitation might be something else.

Thanks for the info. I'll check the flex lines first!

It's funny you mention "on turning" . It does seem to be a bit more noticeable when I'm taking off into a turn.

Chattering when turning under a slight load, especially when the rear end is warmed up can be just the posi clutches catching and letting go instead of sliding.

If it's a new to you car, changing the diff fluid and adding a new bottle of posi conditioner certainly wouldn't hurt even if it didn't need it. And it's a simple yet PIA job to do
