Default oil pressure scare

I recently started my newly rebuilt motor and had a scare. Little to no oil pressure !! Yeah, I didn't need that for sure. This turned out to be an example of "new" doesn't always work. When I bought the '69 427 last fall, the oil pressure gauge didn't work. Plus it was a white face one that is not correct for the year. So I just replaced it with the right one during the rebuild. I got it from corvette central and was a little pleased to see it was a ACDelco part. My thought was something like - good quality for an important part, no *** crap. It worked but it was easy to see the reading was WAY off compared to another gauge from the tool box. Seems like the back of these gauges are very sensitive and exposed in the box. Just goes to show ya, new doesn't always work!!!!

I have two sets of gauges that came with my car (it was mostly in pieces) and I have no history on any of them. When we fire up the new motor I'm putting a mechanical gauge on a tee off the stock location just to be safe. A few bucks for that is well worth it to me.
