Default Lt1 intake and hood

Hi everyone. I have a 72 vette with the baseline 350. I recently acquired an original lt1 intake manifold and I wanted to know if the intake with a original style Holley carb would fit under the stock hood, not the big block hood. Could I use the original dual snorkel air cleaner with this setup, or would this or any configuration not fit under the stock hood at all. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks everyone.

It is my understanding the stock LT-1 set up needs the big block hood.

I ran an LT1 intake with an original style Holley and drop base aircleaner on my 69 with a small block hood. It cleared, but just barely.

My '69 has a Bow Tie version (Genuine Chevrolet part) of the LT1 intake with a Holley DP 4150 carb. Using the stock '69 open drop base air filter. No hood clearance problems with the stock small block hood.

I'd say, "Go for it!"
Cheers,
Pete

As long as it clears. The intake has casting number 3959594 and says it was cast in June of 1970. However it doesn't have the snowflake cast on the intake from the winters foundry. Does this mean this is a reproduction intake or did original gm lt1 manifolds from the winters foundry ever stop casting the snowflake into the manifold?

I can't answer your question exactly. My intake was described in Chevrolet literature of the time, late 80s, as an upgraded version of the LT1 intake. Said to have thicker intake flanges for better sealing. Besides having the Chevrolet Bow Tie under the secondary fuel bowl, it has the Winter Foundry snowflake under the upper rad hose as can be seen here: I do not have the LT1 half inch spacer/insulator between the carb and the intake. If I did, there would be no clearance. As you see it, it has worked very well once I got the carb dialed in.
The temp sender is in the intake because it was too large to fit the L98 head thread size. It too works fine, giving the correct temp readings on the gauge.

The original LT-1 intakes had the snowflake.
