Hello friends. I'm installing a new 454 big block (removed my 350) and removed my side pipes and going back to rear exhaust
I have the headers on torqued. The exhaust is hung but not yet tightened. I'm not sure of the torque specs on the flange - this is a donut system and I don't want to over tighten as I have never installed this before. Any guidance?
Also. Anyone have any pictures of your exhaust with perhaps extra hangers near or around the cross member ? This is a 2.5 inch exhaust and I'm sure it will rattle, so I picked up so e hangers and I want to secure the pipes in the middle of the cross member holes best I can. Really appreciate any feedback.
Exhaust manifold outlet bolts/nut torque to about 25 ft-lbs. Advice on exhaust hangers is that ALL hangers (from frame to pipes) should have rubber isolaters on them to keep system "quiet".
Those bolts come loose very easily but you don't want to bend the flange either. I usual tighten until you see a little deflection and either double nut it, loctite or stage 8 locking bolts.
Double nuts is usually what I do with lock washers on both sides.
Thank you - exactly what I needed ! I will use red loctite, double bolts with lock, washer and tighten until I notice the donut squish a little.
As for my hangers - I bought generic hangers from jegs with rubber, they attach to an exhaust U-Bolt. I will drill the cross member and attach the hanger with self drilling screws with lock washers.
