I was trying to drain my Radiator using the drain plug. I got a 9/16 socket on it and a back up wrench on it. I tried turning it and the drain plug seam where the plug screws into moved a little and started dripping coolant around the seam. I think I cracked the seam and created a leak. My question is can I remove the support that the radiator mount screws into without damaging anything. If I remove it I think I can get into that spot and solder it with my propane torch and repair it without removing the radiator.
Any suggestions will be helpful Thanks!
the radiator sits on rubber mounts which are in two brackets attached to the radiator support. so what exactly are you trying to do? a picture might help.
You can remove the radiator, the shroud and the radiator support as one assembly if that is what you are asking.
Remove the hood, remove the fan, disconnect both hoses, there are 3 or 4 bolts in each front fender well, 2 or 3 across the bottom, and the entire assembly can be pulled up and out.
I think I'd just pull the Rad and do the repair out of the car.
Your going to have to drain all the coolant anyway to get the solder to take. silver solder is goint to take a bit of heat to get it to flow.
Doing this upside down under the front of the car
