Default Removing unused CCC stuff

For those that have removed the CCC (on 81), what did you do with the connectors in the engine compartment? See the pic where I have put a square around the CCC connectors. I would like to basically cut these off. Is that possible? Would it affect anything else? There are several large connectors there.

Thanks,
Jim

Don''t cut them!!!

you should be able to remove the WHOLE wiring harness and not affect anything else. you'll have to pull it through the firewall.

Then maybe you could sell the harness, i'm sure someone out there is looking for one.

Okay! Wow so the entire wiring harness that contains those connectors is for the CCC ? That would make it easy. And yes I thought about that I could maybe sell the CCC.
Thanks

yes, the computer harness is "stand alone" for the most part, it does run all the way from the engine to the battery compartment where the computer is, you will have to open up the center console to get to a lot of it.

yup, it's a stand alone system. You should be able to get good money for a complete working system.

Well that is cool. The only not cool part is 'removing the console again' !!! ugh. Just put in new carpeting. Oh well, maybe wait till next time I have to open that up again.

Thanks

you might be able to get away with just removing the carpeted side pieces and the seats.

The console is the one thing I hate messing with in my car

If you can get "good money" for the entire CCC system, it makes one wonder why you decided to remove it. Actually, you can do quite a bit of upgrading to that '81 engine while KEEPING the CCC system and the benefits of an electronically controlled engine. Just sayin'.....

Okay it's out!

Not too bad really, only had to remove the drivers seat and the side console panel. At one point I didn't think it would fit through the hole in the firewall but it did. So I guess I'll be listing it in the for sale...

In my case, the PO swapped engines and CCC was not being used so a no brainer.

Ya know, it almost never fails...whenever I post a "Why the hell would you want to do that?" type of comment, the OP usually comes back with a pretty good reason!

I guess the question could also be, "why not chain a 500 lb cement block to your car while you drive?"

That is what you are doing with the 81 CCC. It is a total stretch of the imagination to consider it a computer controlled car. It isn't.

The CCC on a 79-81 is merely an extremely rudimentary, ill conceived, cheaply made, poor performing and badly executed, power robbing smog device.

As for resale value? In my experience, Zero, nada, none, non existent. Check the for sale posts on this forum. I kept mine trying to sell for about a year until I gave up and put it all in the trash. That includes the computer, air pump, charcoal canister...et al.

Someone did buy the dual snorkel air cleaner and the ram horn headers with the air pump fixtures.

By the way, like a bad cancer, it looks like the OP might not have gotten all of that harness. Here is a picture of the entire thing in one piece from my car.

More junk you can toss out:

The air pump and the spider.....junk.

All the air intake crap:

Someone did buy the headers and heat shields. Sheesh, I was practically giving them away at this point:

Speaking of PO's. My 81 had the original motor removed and replaced with a L48. Like the OP, I believe most of the original ccc parts and equipment are still in place. How do I know what to remove? Can you circle the items in one of the pics above?

Thx

My L-81 runs great with the CCC and I intend to keep it that way, even when I upgrade to a ZZ4

You certainly will absolutely not be able to run the stock 81 ccc on a GMPP ZZ4.

Is not at all compatible.

"500 lb cement block"

Always an interesting conversation when it comes to the CCC...

Anyways, in my case it wasn't being used, so an easy decision. But I'm glad, because it simplifies things and makes it easier to understand and certainly reduces the clutter.

Did you have to loosen or take the fuse box off to get the harness out? All of the ends were cut off of my car when I got it. I need to pull the harness out now.
