71 big block 4spd. Had new engine installed. At the same time had tranny removed and freshened up. New bearings, seals gaskets, shift forks basic kit. New centerforce dual friction clutch and pressure plate, throwout bearing and pilot bearing. Engine runs great. Clutch or tranny has a problem. Clutch in, put in 1st gear and take off. Shift to 2nd and kind of hard to get in gear and it grinds. 3rd gear same thing. Put it back in 1st gear and it doesn't want to go into 1st gear or any other gear (I think it may be in the last gear still) . Have to fight with it to try all gears and finally it will go back into a gear. I can put the clutch in and the car will stop without the engine dying so I think the clutch is working fairly well.
I know this is a pretty vague description of what's happening but does any one have an idea of what could be wrong?
Have you adjusted the shifter linkage (is it a hurst, or stock shifter)?
Also, have you adjusted the clutch linkage for proper play in the pedal? It should have about an inch to an inch and a half of "free play" at the top of the pedal before the throwout bearing engages the pressure plate...
An improperly adjusted pedal linkage or shifter rods could cause the issues you are describing...
Also, after "freshening up" the tranny, what gear oil did you use?
