Default Tires!

Guess the archives are down, 'cause I couldn't find anything with a search for 'wheels" or "tires".... And you know that can't be right.

Getting some TT IIs, but haven't decided on the size yet. Either 16" or 17". Can you folks give me some tire recommendations? I want to get as close to 27" tire diameter as possible. Not looking for Z rated or anything too expensive, just mainly concerned about the looks. If nothing works out, I could stay with 15" and use the 255/60's, but would really prefer a larger rim. :seeya

I think the 15" on 255/60's look good, good looking wheel with a fat tire, just embodies the vette spirit in my opinion. If you want to keep it close to 27 inch, go to smokemup.com's tire diameter calculator and try different combinations.

I have the TTIIs on my '68. They are 17" and I think they look perfect. The stock 7" rims looked wimpy. The tire size I use is 255 50 r17 According to smokemup.com that equals 27.04"

I don't have a current picture, but if you do a search in the archives I'm sure you'll quickly find half a dozen pics of 17" TTII's on C3s

Oh, I almost forgot- Bridgestone Potenza re730. They look cool and have a decent treadware rating.

Jay M ... I checked the site and not a bad price for a ZR tire. Any problems with the fit? I'm assuming they're no wider than the 255/60 R15's. They calculate out to 27", so those would work well.

Keep 'em coming

In the front they rub if I turn the wheels too sharp, but it doesn't seem to be a problem. I don't remember the backspacing that I got on the rims, but they fit just fine. the e-brake cable comes very close though.

I got the wheels at http://www.hotrodsusa.com The are a small but friendly company and have outstanding prices. I don't see the wheels on their site, but you can call and ask. They were much less than the next best price I could find.

Made a decision, but was torn between the fat tire look of the 15's or go to the 17's. Decided on the 17" TT IIs. In my search for tires with a 27" diameter, it became pretty tough. Couldn't find anything in the 16", thinking I'd be satisfied with 16's if I could get the right diameter in a 255 width. Found and bought Nitto NT 450 Extreme's in a 255/50R-17. It's a 27" dia. tire at a pretty good price ($128 ea. & free shipping). Only issue with it I can see is the wear rating, so we'll see how that goes. Other than that, it looks like a pretty good tire. Ok, now that I've spent the money and too late to change my mind, jump in and tell me if I screwed up or hit the nail on the head!! :smash:

BTW, I couldn't believe the price of the cross-flag center caps! $30 each, and you can't exchange the standard caps that come with the wheels! I passed. For now.

If they look good then you just ruined my whole thought process ;) I still like the fat tire look but I'm thinking the 17" are going to look good as well, I just ask that you take pictures when you get it all setup.

Chris, excellent choice on the TT 17"s, they are going to look great. Did you pick up the TT at Tires and Parts on Dawson St? Just curious.

Can't wait to see them.

I got 'em at Just Tires on Hwy 70. I didn't do a lot of price shopping, but from what I could find, the price seemed pretty good for 17's. There was a considerable jump from 15's to the 17's... I'd be interested to know what others have paid for the 17" TT II's.

Oops, forgot to mention I paid $250 ea for the wheels.
