My AIR pump caused my C3 LT-1 to cough, spit, sputter, hesitate, & sometimes backfire. This was when the car was new. The chevy dealer could not or would not fix the problem. I removed this crap when the car was approx. 3 months old.
Since then, the car runs smooth and strong.

Disconnected the AIR pump belt in 1983 and finally removed everything in
2006 when I put on the shorty headers, once the ar was exempt from emissions inspections. Bye Bye!

I've now got all the correct parts. My OEM smog system is going back on my 69 L71.

For the guys who removed the AIR pipes from the exhaust manifolds, what did you use to plug the holes with that looks decent?

Most dont want to get involved in the paperwork if any did it would be CHP.
Had a long talk with some CHiPpers that were doing a roadside survey

They basically said they are looking for modded late models and yes ricers with missing or stolen stuff. They pretty much leave these old cars alone as many of them also have old rides. " Just dont drive like a fool at 2am" and youll be fine is what I heard.

Going to fab up a small import style pump, polish it make some billet brackets, stainless line for the headers. Make it look super sano just for fun on cruise night. And...for the just in case factor. I cant see where it would lose an ounce of power.

just in case anyone thinks a car made in 2001,(old's intrigue),had an air system that worked any more efficiently think again.the only good thing about it is that it runs an electric motor for less than a minute, because it would burn up if it ran longer.50 seconds worth of emission control, what a joke.

Turn the pump around and let it be a pcv suction device...
Which I understand can actually add anywhere from 5-30hp depending on the engine...

Something I am looking into...

All LT-1's were solid lifters. 70, 71, and 72.

Back to emissions.

I used to work for a small company which supplied CARB with a specialized piece of test gear. They were the most fussy people I've ever dealt with, a bit **** at times.

I'm not trying to be a jerk here, mako, I feel exactly the same way you do, just saying....what could you do about it? Complain to somebody? Who? I sure don't know....a lawsuit, maybe? The whole thing gets crazier and crazier the harder you look at it. I guess my real point here is that if a government official ever pulls you over and starts pulling hoses off under your hood, he/she will have every "right" to do so, and you will be committing a crime if you try to stop him/her.

Oh, well, enjoy these old bones while we can, that's what I say.

Scott
Not really true.... look at the recent apology from the officer that got caught being videotaped... That power that comes with that badge can go to ones head as easily as a couple hundred extra hp under the hood...
