Default refitting gearshift console

Hi Forum,

I'm in the process of rebuilding the interior of my '69 350 manual coupe and I'm trying to fit the gearshift console. One thing I'm not sure about is the fitting of the left and right vent cables. There's a black plastic bracket with a hole in it just where the curly wire protrudes on the vent cable. Underneath the console, at either side of the upper fibre optic panel there are two threaded holes. I'm assuming that a screw goes through the plastic bracket into the threaded hole. Why I'm questioning it is that they do not align very well and it's very hard to get under there to do it. If this is correct, is the curly wire fitted to the vent control post before or after the bracket is screwed into the two holes under the console?

Thanks,

Barry.

Hi Barry,
You're right. There's a lot of tension on those cables that make securing the connections difficult.
I don't think it matters which sequence you use.
One thing that would help (you may not want yo hear this) is to release the cables temporarily at the vent DOORS which takes the tension off the cables and makes the connections at the shifter console easier.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Default console refitted

Hi Alan,
You've come to my assistance once again! Following your advice a mechanic friend helped me connect up the vent cable brackets. It was a very difficult job trying to put the screws into such a confined space, but we managed it without having to remove the cables from the doors. It was made more difficult because the console had been repaired and re-upholstered and it was more padded than it should have been and it didn't fit properly. In the end, we put it back together and it all looks fine. The next job is re-fitting the column, so until then I won't know if everything works as it should. Thanks for your help.
Regards, Barry.

Alan - I was experimenting with how to include pictures. This was the fearsome sight that used to greet me a few weeks ago! Regards, Barry.
