Default Rear Tail Light Support Glue

Just got the bumper covers back from the paint shop and in the process of putting the metal tail light supports....or whatever they are called into the rear bumper cover; assembly manual shows a glue along with the two rivets to hold the metal to the cover;

suggestions for glue to use?

I was thinking to just use seam seal that I used on the door hinges/shims....but thought I would ask.

Thanks

Thanks DUB....just who I wanted to hear from...and good to know that seam sealer will work. It looks like that is what the factory used as the old stuff just crumbles off.

Once I get the metal tail light supports cleaned-up I will be getting the big rivet gun out and get busy.

Thanks again DUB.

Use towels and padding...obviously...due to the two rivets in the taillight housing ...when the rivets get pulled and pop...it will make the rivet gun pop back and damage paint....and I do not mean to make it seem like you are a doofus and would not consider this. But sometimes the most obvious "things" can get overlooked until it is too late.

Although there are two rivet holes in the metal taillight retainer, seems to be only one hole in the bumper cover of my '81. I do not remember now if there were one or two holes and the paint shop filled-in one? I know they did on one of the holes but I could see where the filler had come through and I was able to drill it out quite easily.

I would think that one rivet is adequate along with the seam sealer to hold the metal retainer to the bumper cover as not really wanting to try to match-drill the second hole.

Oh and no problem with reminding me to use towels and padding around the rivet gun.....not a problem at all. I do get to use the smaller rivet gun so that helps as well.

THANKS again.

I believe that it takes 4 rivets per metal retainer. I am picky and would get all of them in place. And if you choose to do so...you can use the drill bit (3/16" if I am not mistaken) by hand that spin it with your fingers to make a new hole if desired.
