Default Fuel pump w/ vent return

The stock mech fuel pump w/ a vent return line only pumps 30 gph. I am concerned this will not be enough for a 383 stroker at 400 plus HP. Is there a higher output pump w/ a vent return line? Thanks for the help guys.

I went through this with my brother in law and his 383.

my answer was, if the fuel pumps were good enough on L-88s in the 60s, they'll be fine on your 383.

Because how likely are you going to be driving an extended period of distance with your foot planted to the floor.

Default Fuel pump

I was not able to get the output on the 70 LT-1 pump. If that was only 30 GPH I agree with you. Thanks for your input.

Default Fuel Pump

Thanks for responding. You have the stock original 350 small block fuel pump? No problems leaning out the engine? Again thanks for your experience.

I don't have the original pump but I have a stock replacement pump, with the return lined hooked up. The only real change to fuel supply I've made is eliminating the small filter in the carb and installing a filter between the pump and the carb. (I also replaced the sock in the tank.) I drag race the car regularly and I have gone as quick as 12.15 at 110 with this setup.

To add a comment, I recently installed a brand new Carter M6955 factory style replacement fuel pump (has return line), their so called Muscle Series. I am now having carb idle issues with a QJet. Checked pump pressure - 9 lbs. Way too high. My online research indicates that this is a common problem with replacement pumps - too much pressure. Should be 5-6. Im picking up a regulator this week to see if it fixes the problem.
