Hi.
Does anyone know what were the largest rear wheels used in international FIA race's were - upto december 1974 on C3's
I have read references in Dr Gimenez's book that quote up to 12" but have yet to find an example or proof , ,
I'm not to sure about the FIA rules, but the SCCA GCR (General Competition Rules) from 1972, limited wheel widths to 1 1/2" wider than stock. I thought the SCCA rules, generally followed those of the FIA?
AP & BP Corvettes were supposed to be running 9 1/2" rims, though I'm not sure the marshals watched it all that closely. There could have been a few people out there with 10 inchers.
73 or 74, was about the time that IMSA really started to loosen up their rules. I don't recall if they were on 10 or 12 inch rims, but they were wider than what SCCA was allowing.
From what I discovered 9.5" was originally the max (even with the L88 flared cars) but very few companies made them in that size so they let them go with 10" wide (Torq Thrust, mini-lite, s200)
74 was the first year of the crazy wide Greenwood cars, and they would have run the 12" wide (rears)

Thanks for the replies , from what I have seen the 10" wide rims seem to fill the stock arches , the flares we have (taken from a L88) are 4" wider than stock so it seems to make sense the wheels were a lot wider for the FIA events in period ?
