Default tire size ?

The factory replacement tires are listed as P215/75R15 roughly 27" diameter.

I use to have Goodyear ST 225-70/15's.
I changed to BF Goodrich Radial TA P235/60R15

TA is 26" diameter.

I need to buy tires again and was wondering what others are using.

Hi rwv,
To my eye I can see the 1" difference in the picture. The tires don't quite fill the wheel opening enough.
The 255-60-15 TA is the right height compared to the original and doesn't cause any rubbing problems on most cars. Some people find it too fat looking if they want an original appearing tire.
What sort of look are you after? Why did you get away from the 225-70-15?
Regards,
Alan

I do no remember why I changed at the time. It is hard to remember stuff I have done over the lat 20 years. I do remember I had to change the speedometer gear and I still have the old one. I was thinking I would go back to the 225. I think it will help a little with gas mileage not that it is a concern of mine anyway.

I currently have 225/70R15's on my '71 but they 20+ years old. I plan to buy new tires in the next month that are the same size. I like how this particular size fills out the wheel opening.

I have been running a set of BFG 235-70-15 on the front and 255-60-15 on the rear. I really like the look and handling. Fits the wheel well very well.

I've been running 245-60-15 for 30+ years. BFG TA and Goodyears. The 255-60, to me, looked a bit "big".

I'm splitting the difference. 25 plus years for me. 255-60s on rear and 245-60s on front.

That's a good combo, I still like to rotate the tires, however I could get over that.

I've got 255/60 front and rear, been that way for about 16 years... I think it fills the fender openings just right. I think it also depends on if your car sits at stock ride height too.

I just install BFGoodrich 255-60-15's all around on mine. I'm very happy with them. They do look a bit wide but I like the feel and look of them..

I'm running BFG 255/60-15 on my '71 and it's lowered about 1 1/2". Fills the wheel wells nicely, no rubbing. No such thing as too wide...
